At just over 24ft/7m long, an ocean rowing boat may feel rather small to row across the Atlantic and come back in one piece; however don’t let their size fool you! For years adventurers have been rowing the Atlantic in these boats, originally built and manufactured using wood. Technological advances mean the manufacturing methods used to build modern day rowing boats have dramatically improved and as a result, the record times for an ocean crossing have dropped.
My “oarsome” machine, named in honour of the original Wave Warrior, is a brand new Rannoch R25 built by ocean rowing specialists Rannoch Adventure. With an exceptional safety and reliability record, not to mention all of the current race records held by their boats, they were the natural experts to partner with. Wave Warrior is currently under construction, aiming to be completed by 2nd August 2019, leaving plenty of time to train before the race.
